Two Months ago….

Two months ago today, we received the gift of a new heart. It seems like it has been much longer than that honestly, but that’s probably because the first week seemed like an enternity.

Maria is doing well. She had another biopsy yesterday. It was a bit difficult as she was very dehydrated and her vessels kept collapsing. The good news is that the procedures yesterday told us that she is dehydrated and the likely cause for feeling icky and getting frequent headaches lately. So, more water is in the forecast!

Two pieces of exciting news. Kare 11 interviewed Maria to be apart of a mini series airing on many NBC affiliates nationwide called :

www.kare11.com/   It will likely air in late October, probably on a Saturday night (this is when the series is currently airing). The series talks about advances in medicine and tells stories of success.

Secondly, I accepted a full-time job at Martin Luther Manner in Bloomington as a Physical Therapist Assistant. I had been working at Courage Center part time. As one can imagine, the benefites are extremely important for us at this point and made the decision rather easy to make. I am really excited as this is the population I want to work with (older folks).

Maria has her ups and downs. She has had to really limit her ‘exposure’ lately as her white blood count has been really low for about 2 weeks. The results from the blood draw yesterday aren’t in yet- hopefully it shows that the numbers are on the rise. She has had to turn down many opportunities to get out and have fun to keep it safe 😦   Lest we forget though, its only been 2 months and no one has ever felt 100% 2 months after heart transplant.

She has been getting very good results on her biopsies, showing no sign of rejection. Thus, she has been able to decrease some of the meds is on. Her stomach, which had been very upset, is getting better each time the dosage is dropped.

Maria and I want to say hi to all of you. Thank you for reading. We look forward to seeing most of you in the upcoming holiday season!!!

Take Care,
